.IE Domain Registration - Discretionary Application
As you may be aware, .ie domain names are issued by the IE Domain Registry (IEDR). The IEDR sets rules for domain name registration.
---------------------------------------------------- DISCRETIONARY APPLICATION ---------------------------------------------------- If you are applying for a domain name registration where the domain name is not similar to your company name, then this domain application is treated as a discretionary application.
Examples of situations where a discretionary application can be made are domains names similar to:
* Product or service names * Brand names being represented by your company * Expos or exhibitions names * Other sundry reasons which may be valid
------------------------------- DOCUMENTATION ------------------------------- All that is required is a letter on your organisations headed paper requesting the registration and giving a reasonable reason.
Eg: Dear Sir or Madam, MYCOMPANYNAME wish to register the domain name MYDOMAINNAME under the discretionary rule as we sell XYZ product/service and wish to use this domain name to promote this.
The above text should be edited to your own particular situation. This letter should be signed by the applicant and faxed to +353 353 1 443 0729.
NB: Before sending documentation, please ensure that you have checked the availability of your .ie domain name and ordered it. This can be done here.
A quick guide to the categories and what documentation is required can be viewed here: http://www.domainregistry.ie/QuickGuideToRegistrations.php Full details on the IEDR policy can be viewed at: http://www.domainregistry.ie/RegistrationPolicy.php
