| Support & Assistance: Spam Filtering
Cloch Internet have a spam filtering system in place which you can configure according to your own preferences.
You can change the settings and what is done with spam through your user control panel at http://www.yourdomain.com/user (replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name). The username will be the part before the @yourdomain.com. Eg: if your email address was bob@yourdomain.com, your username would be bob.
The password is the same as your email password.
The spam filtering system works by scoring an email based on a number of tests. The higher the score, the more likely it is that the email message is Spam. The score that is used to decide whether or not a message is Spam can be altered, but a score of 5 is generally acceptable. It should be noted however, that there is no guarantee that genuine emails will not be accidentally marked as Spam.
Please see our flash deomonstration on spam filtering for a detailed guide on filtering out spam. You can access this guide here.
Recommended Spam Handling Methods:
Method 1: Download & Filter
If you aren't getting too much spam, the best method is to prefix spam messages with a unique identifier such as {Spam?}. You can then set up a filtering rule on your email program to have these messages sent to a quarantine folder which you can check every now and again to make sure no genuine messages have been misidentified. If your happy there aren't any, it is then just a case of emptying the folder to trash.
Method 2: Move spam email to my blocked folder
Each email user has a Spam folder created when their account is set up. This Spam folder can only be accessed via webmail. To access your webmail, go to http://www.yourdomainname.com/webmail (replacing with your own domain name).
This method is handy if: - You mainly use webmail to access your email - You are on a dialup or slow connection and don't want to have to download spam mails - You don't mind logging on to webmail every now and again to clear out your spam folder
Bear in mind that as these Spam mails are left on the server, they will eat into your disk quota, so be sure to clear them out regularly.
