Support & Assistance: Web Statistics

Cloch Internet provides a web statistics reporting tool as standard with all web hosting packages. The system is called AWSTATS.

To view your statistics, login to the client portal and click the "View Stats" link for the relevant domain name.

Advanced Features:
Awstats can be configured to specific requirments to increase report accuracy. For example, specific IP addresses or directories can be excluded from the reports.
For example, if you have a fixed IP address and are the website owner or designer, you may wish to exclude visits coming from this address as they are not "real" visits.
Configuration can be done by editing the awstats.conf file in the cgi-bin/awstats/ directory of your site, or Cloch can configure your reports for you for a charge of €35.

Glossary:

Hits:
A hit is an action on the domain, such as when a user views a page or downloads a file. Many files may be downloaded with a page view. For example, if someone views a webpage that has 5 images on it, the total amount of hits recorded for this action is 6 (1 web page hit and 5 image hits).
The amount of hits is therefore not an accurate measurement of site traffic.

Page Views:
Also called a Page Impression, it refers to a hit to web pages only (access to non-HTML documents, such as images, are not counted).
By default, Awstats also counts hits to scripts such as php and cgi as page views also.

Visitor Sessions:
A Visitor Session is a session of activity (all hits) for one user of a Web site. A unique user is determined by the IP address or cookie. By default, a visitor session is terminated when a user is inactive for more than 60 minutes. Synonym: Visit.

Visits:
Number of visits made by all visitors.
Think "session" here, say a unique IP accesses a page, and then requests three others without an hour between any of the requests, all of the "pages" are included in the visit, therefore you should expect multiple pages per visit and multiple visits per unique visitor (assuming that some of the unique IPs are logged with more than an hour between requests)

Bandwidth:
Total number of bytes downloaded.
