Support & Assistance: Microsoft Outlook Set-up

Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express are two of the most common email programmes available.
Outlook Express is available for free with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

This tutorial explains how to configure either for use with email accounts provided by Cloch Internet, but it can be used to configure most email programs.

Before we start:
You can request additional email accounts to be set up at anytime, simply email/telephone us your desired email address (myemail@mydomainname.ie).
Once requested, you should have received the following from us:

  • Your email address
  • Your password
  • Your login name

Step 1
On the menu bar, click "Tools" -> Click "Accounts"

Step 2: New Account

Click the mail tab
click "Add" -> "Mail"
You should see a dialogue box like the one below:

Step 4: Server Settings
Server settings sound worse than they really are!
The incoming mail server should be set to "POP3" by default. This is correct.
Enter the server names as provided in by Cloch Internet. They will generally take the form mail.yourdomainname.ie for both the incoming and outgoing mail servers.

Step 5: Logon Settings
In the account name box, enter the login name as given to you by Cloch internet
Enter your password exactly as given to you. Passwords are CaSe SeNsItIvE!
You have the option to have Outlook remember your password. If you are comfortable with this, check the box. If your computer is used by others and you do not wish them to download or send messages, leave the box unchecked.
Click Next

Step 6: Properties
Once finished, you should see a box like the one below, with your account listed.
Click on the Properties tab

Step 7: Server Properties
On the servers tab, click the "My server requires authentication" checkbox (very bottom).
Click OK

Close the "Internet Accounts" box.

Step 8: Moment of Truth!
Click "Send/Receive" on your toolbar. If you are already connected to the Internet, Outlook should begin to check for messages immediately, otherwise it will prompt you to connect to the Internet.

If you have encountered any error messages, call us on 1890 924 154.
